Hawai'i - The Big Island
July 20 - 27, 2006

  • On the first day we flew into Kona and got settled.
  • On the second day we ate breakfast and drove to Hokona'a and hiked the Waipi'o Valley.
When we were on the beach, we stopped
to take a break and eat some trail mix
before heading back up and out of the
valley. I couldn't have asked for a more
beautiful setting or a more beautiful companion. I pulled out the ring I bought
a week earlier and proposed to Kelly.

I'm such a lucky guy,.... she said YES!
After leaving the Place of Refuge, we headed to the black sand beach of Punalu'u
After checking in, we went straight to the Volcano!!! Below is the view from the
Hamela'uma'u crater overlook within the Kilauea Caldera. It's a crater within a crater.

( did you know that a Caldera is just a crater that's larger than 1 mile wide !!
The Volcanoes National park encompasses 333,000 acres and ranges from sea level to the summit of the
earth's most massive volcano, Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet. Kilauea is the world's most active volcano !
